Early variations on the newspaper's title include Junior College News, The Don, and El Toro. These issues, digitized from microfilm, document student life at a Southern California community college from the 1920s through 1999, offering student perspectives on societal shifts and historical events over much of the 20th century. Santa Ana College, founded in 1915 and located in a majority Latinx city, is the fourth oldest community college in California. The college newspaper, el Don, has served the campus and surrounding community since 1923. el Don has won 28 Associated Collegiate Press National Pacemaker Awards and was inducted into the Associated Collegiate Press College Journalism Hall of Fame in 2008.
